I'm a javelin thrower. That's what I do. I throw javelins. I've thrown over 64m which makes me one of the best athletes in the world. But I really want more than that, so all day, every day, I sprint, I lift weights, I bound, I rest then sleep. When I wake up I do it all over again.
"Why on earth do you do that?" everyone says. Well, because I love that feeling when you get onto a big throw. A good throw feels seamless, kind of like you're walking on clouds. It feels great knowing all the hard work you put in is worth it. So that's what I do. I train hard so that I can throw far and be the best in the world. And I mean far like 70m far. That's what I would really love to do.
And I really want to win at the Commonwealth Games, and then at the World Championships, but most of all I want to win the big one. The Olympic Games.
There's a great team helping me
Throwing is more than just grabbing a 600g spear and launching it into the sky. Behind every great athlete is a huge support team. From physical therapists to nutritionists, psychologists to management, coaching, sports medicine and everyone in between, I am so grateful to my team both here in Australia and overseas who help me achieve my goals.
And of course my friends and family, who are there for me in the good times and the bad.
Thanks for believing in me!
Mike Barber. Mike is mentored by Grant Ward, Craig Hilliard, Dion Collins and Sara Heasly.
I travel all over the world and write about my adventures
One of the best parts of being an elite athlete is travelling and meeting amazing people. I love to share my experience and hope to inspire other young athletes to make their dreams happen.
And I am so appreciative of my sponsors who are helping me chase my dreams
I wouldn't be where I am today without the support from my sponsors. Throwing the javelin is a fulltime job and having financial, clothing and equipment support keeps my dream alive.
Inspiring others to pursue their own goals is important to me
I love being a strong, confident woman. I want children to grow up with healthy, active and self-confident role models. I would love to share my journey with your organisation. If you would like a great ambassador for women's sport who can empower others to reach their goals then please contact me.
